AFAIK
M$ Outlook only uses the non-standard M$ created LOGIN auth mechanism
instead of the Standard PLAIN auth mechanism or any of the MD5 mechs
(CRAM-MD5 or DIGEST-MD5)
so you have to enable LOGIN for M$ products to be able to auth off of
your server
